The worst flu outbreak in Australia?
2019 Flu Epidemic
In July, the Hong Kong papers reported that Hong Kong hospitals were having difficulties coping with 1000 cases per day being admitted to hospital with the flu. Moreover, there were 205 deaths reported. These were mainly the elderly and the young.
Australia’s worst flu outbreak in history
Now it is Australia facing an epidemic. News Corp Australia Network reported on August 15 that Australia is in the grip of the worst flu outbreak on record. More than 70,000 cases of flu have been reported so far this year including a record breaking 30,000 cases last month.
Like the situation in Hong Kong, there has been a spike in hospitalisations related to complications caused by the flu. 8000 people were hospitalised in Sydney. Other states In Australia are similarly affected. Experts say that the peak of the flu season is yet to come.
People at greatest risk of complications
Flu can cause pneumonia and death. It can have a severe impact on people with chronic illnesses such as asthma, bronchitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, diabetes and heart disease. Besides these, the groups most at risk include the elderly, pregnant women and young children.
What about the Flu Vaccination?
The minority of people are vaccinated. In order to be effective the vaccine must be specific against the strain causing the outbreak. In Australia, it is complicated in that the current flu epidemic is due to 4 separate flu viruses. Moreover, the flu vaccine efficacy wanes after 6 months.
The Message of Prevention
I strongly believe in and want to spread the message of prevention. It's vital to take action to build a strong and competent immune system. If people had a strong immune system they may not have succumbed to the flu, or to be so serious as to be admitted to hospital.
The epidemic is from a virus, not a bacteria. Hence, antibiotics are not useful other than preventing a possible secondary bacterial infection. It is the Natural Killer cells (NK cells) in the immune system which destroy viruses, tumour and cancer cells. To know more about NK cells, I thought this is great video.
Santivia Immune increases the number and activity of NK cells. NK cells are non-specific in action. They kill the virus irrespective of whether they have encountered the virus strain previously.
A Wonderful Testimonial from Ania, from Sydney:
Mum, Ania moved to Singapore from Sydney. This is what she had to say:
"Good for mums with flu-prone kids!
My son had an amazing experience with Santivia recently. Out of his class of 22 kids, over half of them were away from school with serious bouts of influenza A and B (ie. so serious, that many of them headed to hospital to get swabs to know what was going on as they had high fever for 6 - 8 days and were off school for ages). My son has actually always been really susceptible to getting flus and respiratory tract infections (so much so that insurance won't cover him for respiratory tract infection... grrr). The first year we were here, he was sick with something every two weeks, no exaggeration.
He didn't miss one single day of school this semester and didn't catch the dreaded flu that took more than half of his class down. When I heard that the kids were getting sick, I started dosing him up on Santivia and Vit C. I'm astounded he didn't get it. Just shows that this is potentially really powerful and helpful for us mums with flu-prone kids."
